Hamm Camp, along with Harrisburg Parks and Recreation has restructured basketball camps in the city of Harrisburg. They have done so by combining the importance of education, manners and respect for others and self.
Lawrence Hamm, a graduate of Harrisburg High, has went on to be a pro basketball player playing so far 4 years in top leagues throughout Europe. Hamm led the first annual Hamm camp in 2009 that gave hope to over two hundred of Harrisburg’s youth. He and the Hamm Camp staff look to provide even more in depth programs to push our youth to reach excellence on and off the court.
Lawrence Hamm Jr. is bringing an innovative experience to young basketball players in the city that gave him the foundation to become a professional athlete. As a graduate of Benjamin Franklin Elementary School, Math and Science Academy, and Harrisburg High School, Lawrence understands the tools and knowledge that Harrisburg students need to succeed in sports and beyond. Lawrence built upon the essentials that he learned as a youth in Harrisburg to become the starting small forward at Towson University. Lawrence has continued to use the same basics he learned in Harrisburg to the professional basketball stage during his time in both Holland and the Czech Republic.
Lawrence brings his experience from around the world to help Harrisburg’s young players hone their skills and talents both on and off the court. Lawrence hopes that each Hamm Camp participant will gain the confidence to dream big and one day reach their goals through hard work and dedication. By meeting with a team of successful and knowledgeable athletes, educators, and professionals, campers will be encouraged to plan out an individual path for success.
The overall goal of this camp is for each participant to achieve his or her full potential in every situation the camper encounters in life. Through basketball we will explain the importance of proper communication, wellness, education, teamwork, and self-confidence. In five days we will help each camper reach his or her full potential in striving to become the next generation of professional athletes as well as positive individuals living in today’s society.
The focus is to help build the basics of Basketball, while teaching Manners, Goal Setting, Teamwork, Positive Attitudes and the importance of Education to each camper’s future. Along with the Michelle Obama Let's Move Initiative, we will promote good health.
